A woman Councilor in Namutumba district and two Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO Chairpersons have been arrested and arraigned before Chief Magistrates Court, Iganga.

The trio that appeared before the Iganga Chief Magistrate today, 23rd July, 2024 is Namugosa Farida, Woman Councilor Nawampandu Parish, Namaba Rogers, PDM SACCO Chairperson for Nawampandu “A”, and Kantono Ruth, PDM SACCO Chairperson of Kasegere B.

According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit that carried out the investigations and arrests, the trio who are all SACCO leaders between the months of August and September 2023 allegedly escorted PDM funds beneficiaries to the banks and lured them to withdraw and later took the money from them.

The Court remanded them to Iganga Government Prison until 2nd August, 2024 when they will reappear for mention of their cases and possible bail application.

These join Mande Idhube Baziriyo, the chairman LCIII Nangode Town Council in Namutumba district who was arrested on 30th June, 2024/07/19 after he allegedly defrauded a PDM beneficiary, a 60 year old Wonaira Mirisah. He was later remanded until 15th July, 20214.

It was alleged that the suspect devoted himself to help an old woman WONAIRA MIRISAH to open up a bank account and also help her to access PDM money.

In December 2023, when PDM money was ready, the suspect took the victim to the Bank at Iganga and asked her to give him the phone and PIN to help her withdraw the money using mobile wallet.

Later the suspect told the victim that money was not ready and he returned her phone before parting ways.
