MBALE CITY
Mbale motorcycle operators and riders association has sacked four of its staff over extortion, corruption and painting bad image of the Association to the public.
While speaking to our reporter from his office on Tuesday, 23rd July, 2024, Badru Din Wamundu, the speaker of the Association named the staff as Derrick Gidongo, Abbas Wataba, George Masaba popularly known as Fozi, and Isa Kagoma.
He says that these four officers have been working as guides.
Guides are enforcement officers attached to Mbale motorcycle operators and riders association who arrest Boda Boda riders in town who operate without helmets, with no permits, park at ungazetted places among others.
Wamundu says that these officers were sacked after getting outcries from the public and Boda Boda riders about extortions of money from riders they arrest. He says this practice is illegal because according to their laws, their main work is to arrest the suspects then take them to the office and where an appropriate punishment is given but not extortion of money.
He says that they have already notified police to arrest any of the four if found in the field working on their behalf and be prosecuted for masquerading.
Stephen Khaukha and Isma Wandulu, all boda Boda riders operating at Republic Street stage expressed their happiness with the decision saying these officers had become a problem to the Boda Boda industry in town.
