SIRONKO
Transport in Sironko District has come to a standstill after the collapse of the Diisi-Bumuluwe Bridge on Wednesday afternoon, 24th July, 2024.
This bridge connects Kiguli Busulani to Masaba Sub County. The collapse was triggered by an accident involving a truck, registration number UBH217X, which was loaded with matooke and other merchandise from Buboolo market.
The incident left four people injured, who were subsequently taken to Kiguli center for medical treatment.
Residents expressed their concerns to our reporter highlighting that this was the only remaining bridge in the area.
The collapse has rendered it impassable, creating a significant hazard for the community.
With no vehicles able to pass, locals are urging the government to step in, repair the damage, and restore transport links.
The collapse of the Diisi-Bumuluwe Bridge leaves Masaba Sub County without any alternative access routes, especially since the Gombe Bridge had already collapsed much earlier.
According to Living Stone Gilulu, the LC5 chairperson of Sironko, they have already got the information and CAO has written to the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness to release disaster funds for repairing the bridge.
He says that residents of Masaba sub county and other neighboring sub counties like Buchabo, Butandinga are farmers meaning they are now suffering to transport their agricultural produce to markets.
