There is shift in might in the Eastern Region primary school football competitions as fresh districts have produced champions in this year’s U13 Odilo boys’ and girls’ football.
The new kings and queens are Source of Hope from Sironko in boy’s category who beat Busoga’s Sifuyo primary school 5-4 in penalty shootouts after normal time ending one all.
Kira Junior School from Jinja were controversially crowned champions after the finals game against Prime view primary school from Tororo ended prematurely just less than five minutes of play. The latter team cited favored screening of their opponents; they abandoned the game.
The champions were confirmed on Saturday, 26th July 2024 at Mbale municipal stadium.
The champions will represent Eastern region at the Nationals annually hosted at FUFA technical center in Buikwe district.
Isa Musiwa, the football chairperson of the Eastern region while gracing the handover of trophies appealed to the school coaches and directors to desist from denying the intended age categories chance to play by fielding over age players arguing that this retards football development in the country.
He further inspired the champions to work hard for the next level (nationals).
“You are going as a school but you are carrying the flag of the entire region, so when you begin training, you will be perfect, don’t be contented with this regional trophy but also aim at winning during nationals,” he said.
Gad Batuse, the UYFA Eastern delegate announced that the awarded trophies are for Keeps and the champions will be given 10 balls each for better preparations.
Wetaka Peter Benon, the district sports officer of Sironko showed his gratitude to Source of Hope Primary School for the great representation which school will represent the country in FEASSA games to be hosted in Teso this year.
