Justice Collins Accellam has been appointed the new Resident Judge of Mubende High Court.
Justice Accellam previously Resident Judge Arua Circuit was unveiled on Monday, 23rd September, 2024 after the Court Open Day at Mubende High Court where the Principal Judge, Dr. Flavian Zeija, inaugurated a state-of-the-art Video Conferencing System.
Accellam is to deal with a number of challenges affecting the region including the shortage of prosecutors, the absence of a maximum security prison, the lack of a women’s wing at Kyankwanzi Prison, and inadequate support for police witnesses during transfers.
Meanwhile, Dr. Flavian Zeija, the Principal Judge and Chief Guest, underscored the Judiciary’s commitment to making justice more accessible. He spoke on various judicial innovations, including plea bargains, small claims procedures, and Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms such as mediation.
He further revealed that the Mubende Region would soon benefit from the Fort Portal Court of Appeal Circuit, a move aimed at speeding up the delivery of justice in the area.
