The Mbale City Resident Commissioner has given Authorities at Mbale City Council a one- week ultimatum to fix the only traffic lights in the City.

Asumin Nasike, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner gave the ultimatum on Wednesday, 25th September, 2025 while addressing the Media at her office.

The traffic lights are located at the intersection of Nabuyonga Rise, Mugisu Hill and Pallisa roads.

The traffic lights have however been dysfunctional for the last one year which has raised concern among the public.

A number of accidents have been registered with the public accusing the authorities at Mbale City Council of not doing enough to fix the traffic lights.

Asumin Nasike, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner says that following the release of 8.5 million shillings from Mbale city Council towards the fixing of the traffic lights, the concerned technical teams should accomplish the work in a week’s time.

According to Nasike, this should be given the urgency it deserves since a number of people have been affected by accidents as a result of dysfunctional traffic lights.

Last week, Ambrose Ochen, the Mbale City Town Clerk when contacted by media at his office gave hope to the people of Mbale saying the city was doing what it takes to fix these lights.

James Kutosi, Mbale City Council Spokesperson when contacted on phone said that that traffic at first had been given a software which stopped vehicles for 2 minutes which was too much.

He adds that they have already procured new equipment and Instilment is going to start this week and the software they are going to replace will allow the stopping of vehicles either side for 30 to 45 seconds according to traffic guidelines.

Kutosi assured the people of Mbale City that before the end of next week, traffic lights will be working.
