MBALE CITY
Mbale city has officially started repairing traffic lights which broke down over a year ago.
The Authorities started the exercise on Wednesday, 2nd October, 2024, a week after Asumin Nasike, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner gave a one week ultimatum to City authorities to fix the traffic lights.
The RCC gave the ultimatum after the Mbale City Council approved money for the work in the last financial year of 2023/24 but no works had been done.
These traffic lights are in three road junctions which connect Mugisu hill lane road, Pallisa road and Nabuyonga rise.
The RCC made a directive after the junction became a death trap to Boda Boda riders who were always being knocked by vehicles since lights which direct them were not functioning.
James Kutosi, the Mbale City Public Relations Officer says that all new equipment has reached and repair works kicked off on Wednesday.
He says that lights are now showing but the engineers in the process setting minutes to give accurate periods of green and red lighting such that they don’t take long which can cause jam of vehicles like it used to be.
