Police in the Elgon region have started an investigation into circumstances under which a senior one student of Nabumali High School known as Esther Cherop died.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, 5th October, Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, Jane Muduwa, a resident of Kapchorwa district and mother to Cherop reported the matter to police after her daughter died.

He says that on Monday, 30th September, 2024 Cherop was reported sick and the mother was called. She took her daughter to Elgon hospital but unfortunately, Cherop died on Friday, 4th October, 2024 after admission.

Taitika adds that the mother accuses the school authorities of delaying to call her in time to take her daughter for treatment which might have led to her death.

He says that the case has already been registered at police under case number 026/2024 saying the postmortem report will help police to investigate.

However, getting a comment from the head teacher was futile by press time after her assistant picked the phone and told us she is not around to give a comment.
