MBALE CITY
Mbale Sino Industrial Park is not receiving enough electricity to power the 51 factories and government is in the process of getting special power-line for the Industrial Complex.
This was revealed by Prime Minister, Robinah Nabanjja during a meeting with the Investors on Saturday, 19th October, 2024 during the official closure of two days trade show at Mbale Industrial Park located at Doho Industrial city Division.
She was responding to a complaint raised by Paulo Zhang, one of the investors who told the Prime Minister that the park now has 51 factories after adding the newly commissioned Uni-Steel and Glass factories and yet the electricity they are currently having is not enough to run all these 51 factories since they require lots of power.
In the response, the Prime Minister said government has received that complaint before but promised that government will tap a direct special power-line from the newly commissioned Karuma power dam through Tororo to Mbale Industrial Park.
She says this will solve the problem of inadequate electricity and power blackouts which investors have been complaining about.
Nabanjja argues that if power is enough and at a cheaper rate, products produced at the Park will be cheaper urging Ugandans to buy products made from Uganda to boost the economy.
Evelyn Anite, the State Minister for Investment praised investors at Mbale industrial park for employing over 6,000 youths saying government is still welcoming more investors to solve unemployment problem among the youths and developing the country.
