The National Resistance Movement Party (NRM) Secretariat has refuted allegations that Mercy Timbitwire Bashisha, the infamous woman who assaulted a cop on duty is one of their staff members.
It has emerged that while at police, Timbitwire told the police in her statement that she is the Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the NRM Secretariat, the Party’s administrative headquarters.
According to charge sheet seen by this publication, Timbitwire is said to be 38 years old and ‘Public Relation Officer in the Office of the NRM Secretariat.”
However, the Director of Information, Publicity & Spokesperson NRM party, Emmanuel Dombo has disowned Timbitwire saying, ‘to the best of our knowledge, we do not have such a person at the NRM Sect. We shall crosscheck, too, with our other offices upcountry or the diaspora. This is fake identity.”
Dombo further revealed that, “According to the charge sheet, this lady lied to the police that she works with the NRM Secretariate, thereby committing another offence!”
It now remains to be seen whether Timbitwire will be slapped with another charge of impersonation or whether the NRM Secretariat will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.
