TORORO

The meeting scheduled by the Tororo Municipality Mayor, Kenneth Orono Nyapidi to resolve issues between his councilors and a section of technical officers did not take place after he himself absconding.

Early last months, over 15 councilors petitioned the office of the Mayor seeking for his redress on the poor performance of some technical officers at municipal that they think is affecting development at council.

The petition captured education department, health department, finance department and works and technical services department where they wanted some officers thrown out and others punished.

Upon receiving the petition, the Mayor then wrote a letter to office of the town clerk dated 29 October drawing his attention to the councilors’ disgruntlement.

In the letter, the Mayor asked the town clerk to organize a meeting attracting all the accused technical officers, the councilors and other relevant officers and the accused technical staff were supposed to submit written defences on the day of the meeting.

The meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, 13 November 2024 and the councilors turned up ready to listen from the accused technocrats.

To their utter disappointment, none of the Technocrats turned up including the convener of the meeting himself, the Mayor.

The councilors waited until they got tired and started departing from the meeting one by one without any formal communication from the conveners of the meeting.

Josephine Aketch, a female councilor representing Bison Maguria Parish says the Mayor could have been intimidated by the technical officers to abandon the meeting which openly exposes their weird characters.

Andrew Omuye, a councilor representing Amagoro A Parish says that failure by the technical officers to show up for the meeting is a clear sign that whatever they raised as councilors is true and the technical wing is still struggling to cook accountability on matters related to money.

At last, the Mayor sent Omuye to the meeting hall to tell other Councilors that the meeting will be re- scheduled to a date that will be communicated.
