Police in Busia have clarified on misinformation circulating on Social Media that fire gutted Busia Customs Immigration building.

Speaking about the incident, on Tuesday, 19th November, 2024, Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South police spokesperson says what happened was a fire outbreak drill that was organized by Ambulance Africa in conjunction with URA.

“It was not a disaster nor a crisis as portrayed, but it was a fire outbreak drill, that was organized by Ambulance Africa in Conjunction with URA,” says Mugwe.

Mugwe says they intended to create awareness among all the workers who occupy that said building and the surrounding businesses community on how to handle such incidents when they occur, more so on how to fight fire using the firefighting equipment installed in the building.

He says they were given different skills on how to rescue and evacuate the victims trapped, remove/recover the dead, how to escape from the scene/building, the roles of the stakeholders and how to affect them at the scene for example Fire brigade), Red Cross, among others.
