The sorry state of the 6 kilometres Pajwenda-Mwello Road in Pajwenda Town Council, Tororo District has compelled residents to use hand hoes to fix it.

Residents today Thursday 5th December,2024 morning mobilized themselves and decided to work on the road using hand hoes.

According to residents, the road has become impassable due to potholes, stagnant water and mud whenever it rains making it slippery and a hot spot for accidents.

They started working on the road this morning by using hand hoes, pangas, slashers, among other tools to open drainage channels as well as stones and soil to fix potholes and compact using the old culvert by rolling it on the soil that they pour on the road.

Odoi Onyango Otaro, a resident of Bira West Ward says that the road has stayed for several years without being rehabilitated and is now covered up with bushes to the extent that a user cannot see what is coming in front.

Jackline Owino, a resident says that the road has gone 15years without rehabilitation making it impassable especially during the rainy seasons.

Christine Okoth, another resident argues that most of their perishable agricultural products like sweet potatoes, onions, cassava are rotting in the gardens due to the poor transport network.

Moses Odell, the Mayor of Pajwenda Town council says that they have complained severally to the district authorities about the sorry state of the road but nothing has been done.

Odell applauded the efforts of the community members to repair the roads.

He says that the road is under Tororo district Local government.
