Mbale City Service Commission has suspended interviews for people who applied to fill vacant positions at the education department including the position of City Education Officer.

Mbale city advertised various vacant positions at different departments and most interviews were conducted last week except for the education department.

According to James Kutosi, the public relations officer Mbale city, the interviews of the education department were suspended on Monday, 9th December, 2024 in response to a letter from the Equal Opportunity Commission calling for suspension.

According to Kutosi, Linus Nasimiyu, the acting city education officer who is on interdiction appealed to the Equal Opportunity Commission after getting to know that the position she was acting in had been advertised as well.

He says Nasimiyu blamed Mbale city authorities of taking the advantage of her interdiction to advertise her position and conduct interviews while she is on interdiction prompting the Equal Opportunity Commission to write to Mbale city service commission to suspend the interviews for only the education department.
