There was shock in Namisindwa district after Hussein Namakanga, a local surgeon chopped off the whole manhood of a boy during circumcision.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday, 11th December, 2024 at Bumakolota village, Bukokho parish, Bukokho Sub County in Namisindwa district.
Angry Kadodi dancers descended on Namakanga armed with sticks and bricks and beat him to near death but was saved by some locals who rushed him to the nearby Bumbo Police Post.
According to Michael Koyi, one of the eyewitnesses, Namakanga chopped off the head of the boy’s penis accidently.
Samuel Wetula, the boy’s father says that Nakamakanga was in a hurry, the reason he made this costly mistake.
He urged the Inzu Yamasaba to regulate these surgeons by putting tough laws which permit them to circumcise at most two boys per day so that such incidents can stop.
Fred Wakoko, the chairperson of surgeons at Inzu yamasaba says that according to his records, Namakanga has not yet been approved.
He says that he has less than 500 surgeons who are permitted by Inzu Yamasaba to circumcise out of over 1000 they have in Bugisu, urging people to avoid using surgeons who are not approved.
Wilson Watila, the chairman of [Imbalu] circumcision at Inzu Yasamaba says that people who defied the Inzu yamasaba circumcision calendar are causing all these.
He adds that according to the Inzu yamasaba circumcision roadmap of December, Namisindwa is supposed to circumcise on 13th.
SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson when contacted on phone confirmed the arrest of Namukanga. He says the victim who is in critical condition is currently receiving treatment at Mbale regional hospital.
