MBALE CITY
Mbale city has started fixing all non-functioning solar street lights put five years ago.
This was revealed by James Kutosi, the Mbale City Public Relations Officer while speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview saying the works started today, Thursday, 12th December, 2024.
Most of the solar lights along Republic Street, Palisa road, Nabuyonga rise road, Mugisu hill put under Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) project are not functioning.
This created insecurity at the City Center with cases of snatching of phones, bags of women, murder, and rising.
Kutosi says that the city has started repairing all the non-functioning lights such that the city can light.
Sam Namagala and Steven Munasi, both businessmen along Republic Street expressed their happiness saying they have been failing to operate beyond 7pm due to darkness in town.
They urged the city leaders do monthly routine maintenance of these lights.
