Fresh details have emerged explaining circumstances under which the former Osukuru Sub County LC3 Chairman, John Paul Okanya shot himslef on the chest twice.
Okanya is currently in a critical condition after he shot himself twice on the chest using a pistol.
Emily Kaigwa, the Officer In charge Tororo central police station told the media that Okanya picked up a quarrel with his wife after he returned home late on 12th December,2024 at 2pm before he picked up a pistol and shot himself.
Kaigwa states that Okanya was unhappy that his wife always blames him for over drinking and returning home late every day. He further explained that Okanya first gave the weapon to his wife to shoot him but she declined and moved outside their house but on returning inside, she found Okanya lying in a pool of blood. She then called neighbors who then quickly rushed Okanya to Mbale Regional Referral hospital for medical attention.
Kaigwa suspects that the incident could have been as a result of a long-standing domestic dispute. Reports indicate that of late, Okanya’s wife and children have been very aggressive towards him for marrying another woman.
He notes that they have currently confiscated the pistol as investigations in the matter continue.
Okanya’s shooting has raised a lot of fear among residents as many continue wondering how and why such a man of good financial stand would choose to end his life in such a way.
