Namisindwa district council has today Tuesday, 17th December, 2024 officially recognized the Saboti clan as one of the Namisindwa District Bonafide clans.
Saboti is a small group of people who are yet to be recognized in Uganda’s Constitution but livingin Bukokho Sub County, part of Bumbo Sub County, part of Bumityelo sub county and Bumbo town council in Namisindwa and majority are in neighbouring Sebei region. They migrated from Western Kenya in late 1980s into Uganda.
During council, the motion of registration was raised by Bwayo Kitumbesi, councilor representing Namabya Sub County who also doubles as Namisindwa district vice Chairperson.
Martha Muyama, female councilor representing Bumbo town council seconded the motion before speaker Dorothy Walukawu put it to a vote.
John Musila, the area Member of Parliament representing Bubulo East constituency expressed his happiness with the passing of the motion.
Musila says that he is going to take the motion to Parliament so it can be passed and the rest will be left to the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
He says that the Saboti minority group has been marginalized in in terms of getting services like good schools, roads, and health centers among others.
Wickliffe Juma Chengun, the clan chairperson of Saboti tribe in Namisindwa district expressed his happiness and asked the area Member of Parliament to expedite the process of taking the minute to the Floor of Parliament to be passed.
