Residents of Akoboi sub-County, Ngariam County in Katakwi District have showed their excitement following the formation of a weekly cattle market in the area.
The cattle market called “Akoboi-Omodo cattle market” has sparked positive discussions from the public and other stakeholders who have applauded the initiative saying, its timing is the best.
The interim committee of the market headed by Benjamin Okiror has given the public to sale their goods without being taxed.
The market lying on 12 acres of land is bordering Getom sub-county from the north and started temporarily on 9th of December 2024 with an interesting turn up.
Today 16th of December 2024 marked the second week of its operation temporarily but saw District leaders actively buying several food items.
Mr. Moses Onyu, the Chief Finance officer (CFO) for Katakwi district today appreciated the formation of the market and urged the public to support the sub county by coming to do business in it.
Onyu who pledged total support to the market called on the public to turn up in big numbers for the launch slated for 20th-January 2025.
Samuel Okiror, urged the leadership to help in drumming support for the public to own the market.
Jorem Obukui, the LC3 of Akoboi sub-County called on the business community and the General public to utilise this opportunity by coming to buy Christmas and new year’s things for their families.
Obukui said, this will ease transportation of individuals to far distances.
