As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party prepares for party primary elections in May 2025, leaders in Namisindwa district have raised their concerns over inflated numbers of villages and multiple names of voters from different villages.

According to Aramazan Wabuko, the Namisindwa district NRM chairperson while speaking to our reporter today Wednesday, 18th December, 2024, the NRM records indicate that the district has 1,557 villages, the district records indicate 1,650 villages whereas the Electoral Commission indicates that Namisindwa has 1,637 villages.

He adds that this unmatched number of villages may cause problems for them in the coming election because it will be hard to know the real number of villages they have to dispatch electoral materials to for elections.

Wabuko adds that during the recent NRM party register update, they discovered that most of villages have over ten similar names which in actual sense is impossible.

He says that as they head for party primary elections, they have fears that the results may not be accurate or favor all the aspirants.

The NRM chairperson adds that since elections will be at village levels, they may have to use the system of reading one name at a time such that they can avoid the issue of one person voting in different villages.

Dorothy Walukawu, the Namisindwa district NRM women’s league chairperson who is also eying for the woman MP seat come 2026 on NRM ticket says that NRM data clerks who were updating registers recently discovered that one national ID has over ten similar names with one NIN number.

She adds that this mess could have been done by village NRM registrars with the aim of manipulating election results during the primary elections.

Emma Bwayo who plans to contest for Namisindwa LCV chairperson on NRM ticket urged party leaders to look for a solution to this problem before NRM primary elections.

He says if this is not done, they are going to have many petitions and independent candidates after primaries which may cost the party.
