A total of nine nurses attached to Busabi Health center III in Butaleja district are on spot for absconding from duty without clear reasons, leaving a number of patients unattended to.

The Butaleja district deputy chief Administrative Officer, Mike Yoga, has directed the district health officer Adam Musiho, to bring up the nine nurses (identities withheld), to explain why they absconded from duty, on Thursday, 19th December, 2024 leaving several patients helpless.

Mr Yoga, RDC Eva Kwesiga, LCIII Patrick Malya of Busabi Sub County, and other district leaders paid an impromptu visit to Busabi health centre III, but found only 4 nurses on duty to handle the many patients at the facility.

The CAO, then immediately tasked Tonny Kagoda, the in charge of Busabi health centre III to explain the whereabouts of the rest of the nurses. Kagoda defended them unsatisfactorily which angered the CAO, who threatened to deny the troubled nurses their Christmas packages.

He also tasked the Butaleja district health officer to swing into action, by summoning them to CAO’s office to explain the reason behind their absence at the facility yesterday 19th December, 2024.

Eva Kwesiga, RDC for Butaleja district, threatened to deal with lazy civil servants, including the teachers on science scale who take civil service for granted.

Meanwhile, Patrick Guloba Malya, the LCIII for Busabi Sub County has raised concerns over maternity ward at Busabi health centre III which he says is at the verge of collapsing, with cracks all over.

“The cracks here are because this building is too old, but on the other hand, the contractors who constructed it did substandard work.” He said.

In response, the CAO promised to push for immediate action upon it.
