PALLISA
A patient has died in a Born Again Church being prayed for prompting police to swing into action and arrest the Lead Pastor and a Senior Church member.
It is reported that on Sunday, 29th December, 2024, John Okodoi aged 36 years, now deceased, a resident of Cheele village, Oukoto parish, Gogonyo Sub County in Pallisa District developed stomach complications and malaria.
Okodoi was taken to a nearby drug shop (not identified yet) for medical attention but later, John Okanya, the lead pastor of Agape Born Again Church together with Mary Amoding Joyce, a church member removed the patient from the drug shop and took him to their church for healing prayers.
According to Moses Kityo Mwanga, the Bukedi North region police commander, the duo tied Okodoi with ropes and prayed for him until he died. Realizing that Okodoi had died, they took off and abandoned the body in the church.
He says that locals informed police on Monday, 30th December prompting a police hunt for the two.
Kityo says police were able to apprehend the duo at their hideout the same day and are currently being detained at Pallisa Central Police Station.
Kitiyo adds that the body was taken to Pallisa hospital for postmortem.
