FORT PORTAL CITY

Richard Nyakana, a model farmer of Kana Farm Rwenguju with a one-acre garden in Rwengojo village, Senganyu parish, and Fort Portal City, has urged Ugandan farmers to execute the presidential message of a four-acre modal to generate riches.

During a six-day Presidential tour of 70 Karamoja and Teso journalists to his farm, which was sponsored by HE President Yoweri Kaguta Musevini, Nyakana challenged Teso, Karamoja, Bukedi, and other regions to put the presidential idea into practice because it benefits income growth and lifestyle change.

According to Nyakana, places such as Karamoja and Teso have more land than Fort Portal. He claims that out of 245 homes, 90% have a quarter, half, or part of a garden, 70% have 2-4 gardens, 2% have 4-5 gardens, and 1% possess ten gardens.

Nyakana, who owns a 1.3-acre plot of property, uses it for four economic activities: dairy farming, chicken farming, a banana plantation, and a feed processing factory, from which he earns Shs14,769, 000 every month.

According to him, on his dairy farm of ten friesian cows, he receives a daily milk production of 126000 liters, a gross of Ugx 132000, and a net gross of Ugx 2,160,000 every month.

While his 10,000 poultry birds produce 120 trays of eggs each day, he earns between Ugx 300,000 and Ugx 1,200,000, net gross monthly, while his feed processing factory generates 3,000,000 monthly for processing feeds for farmers and earns Ugx 600,000 in agricultural waste.

With around 10,500 parishes throughout Uganda, Nyakana, who received the president’s message of 4 acres Model in Mpanga while still a student of Ordinary level, urged farmers to change their mindset and embrace 4 acres Model in order to overcome poverty.

Kana Farm Rwengaju has excelled for over 30 years, employing over ten people in the machinery industry and on farms.

Meanwhile, George Kasoisi Rumaari of Nyaki Sanga Village, Nyangkigambo Sub County, Sanga County, Kiruhura District has a similar story.

He says that between 1998 and 2000, he visited Tanzania in search of pasture, but the government of Tanzania declared him a non-citizen and forced him to leave the country empty-handed.

In 2000 and 2001, he returned to his Valleys land and began planting sugar cane, banana plantations, and mangoes.

He recovered from animal loss and began a four-acre model in which he receives $250,000 from each mango tree, $22 million each acre, and 44 million per year from Kasoise’s twelve acres.

According to him, the presidential message of four acres has enabled him to develop twelve acres of fruit farm, and as a result of his project, he has built a hotel and educated his two sons, one at university and the other at advanced level, both of whom have agricultural expertise.

On the other hand, the VP Maj Rtd Jesica Rose Alupo Epel encoded the presidential initiative to the people of Teso, saying Teso has fertile land which can change the household state in the region.

“Let’s embrace the presidential plan of a four acre model, in order for us to eradicate poverty in the region” VP added.
