SIRONKO

The Sironko District Engineer and his junior, the Superintendent of Works have been interdicted by the Chief Administrative Officer, Nelson Kirenda.

Andrew Wasukira, the Senior District Civil Engineer and Acting District Engineer has been relieved off his duties in a letter dated 14th January, 2025.

Andrew Wasukira and the contractor of Shs2.2 billion Buteza Seed SS were again arrested on orders of State minister for economic monitoring, Peter Ogwang over corruption, forgery and shoddy work, among others in 2021.

Similarly, Charles Nasusi has also been sent home courtesy of the January, 14th 2025 interdiction letter that faults him for accounting for a road constructed using materials donated by Budadiri East MP, Nathan Nandala claiming it was maintained using government’s Road Funds.

Wasukira’s woes date back to 2022, when the CAO wrote to him demanding explanations on how various road works under the Shs1 billion road maintenance works grant was misused.

Wasukira is said to have received the monies, reported that the identified road works had been done yet in reality there were no works done or the works were incomplete.

“These works stretch way back since 2021/22 Financial year. To date you have not responded to my letter,” writes Kirenda.

Wasukira’s woes have been compounded by the recent Road Works inspection tour led by Nathan Nandala where it was discovered that most roads were not completely done.

After conclusion of the tour, Sironko MPs tasked the CAO to punish Wasukira over his poor handling of road works in the district.

Those leaders first had four days of road inspection across the district having evidence that the 1 billion shillings road fund which the government sent to the district for financial year 2023/24 did only 22% of roads planned for.

Subsequently, Kirenda wrote to Wasukira to explain the mess in writing which however has not convinced the CAO who accuses Wasukira of poor supervision.

“I take exception to your not having ensured close supervision of the contract managers. This would have enable them complete the works in time,” says Kirenda.

The duo have handed over offices today, Thursday, 16th January, 2025 and will be on interdiction for 6 months on half pay.

While speaking to the media on Thursday (today) at his office, Edward Eko the deputy CAO Sironko says that the two engineers have been served interdiction letters pending investigations.

He says that they are going to investigate what the one billion shillings road funds for financial year 2023/24 did.

Herbert Musika, councilor representing Nalusala Sub County in Sironko district expressed his happiness with the CAO’s decision saying it will be an example to other civil servants who play around with taxpayers’ money.

Both handed over offices this afternoon to Sam Gidongo who has been town engineer working at Sironko Town Council.
