BUSOGA

President Museveni has denied rumours circulating that he is sending people to undermine or remove former Speaker Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga from politics in Busoga.

He called these allegations insulting, emphasizing that he has always maintained an open relationship with Kadaga, regularly offering her advice, and that he has no issues with her.

He urged the community to remain silent on these rumours, describing them as a waste of time. Museveni expressed his respect for Kadaga, noting that they often discuss various matters.

This statement was made during the third day of the PDM (Parish Development Model) assessment tour in the Busoga sub-region, where Museveni addressed hundreds of people at the Kamuli Youth Center in Kamuli Municipality on Friday, 24th January, 2025.

He reiterated his support for Kadaga, emphasizing that he has no conflicts with her and fully supports her efforts.

It should be noted that recently, during a public function, Kadaga accused some politicians in Busoga and individuals in Busoga Kingdom of plotting against her politically. She made these accusations in a viral audio message on social media, stating she is prepared to confront anyone who seeks to undermine her.

During the same event, Museveni advised the Basoga people to focus on wealth creation. He addressed concerns regarding development, jobs, and poverty, stating that while infrastructure such as roads and schools are important, the key to progress lies in individual wealth creation. Museveni explained that development should be viewed as a collective effort, but wealth and poverty are personal issues. He shared an anecdote from 1960, when he noticed the state of roads in Uganda and recognized that improved infrastructure could lead to development and through PDM development is amust for the community.

Museveni highlighted examples of local success stories that he paid a visit in the past 2 days, such as Mukasa Eriot from Luuka, who grows passion fruits for survival, and Kazibwe Michael from Butembe, a cocoa farmer. He also mentioned Ijala, a farmer from Serere, who transformed his life through the four-acre farming model promoted by the government in 2011.

However On the issue of wetlands, Museveni noted that many people misuse and improperly maintain wetlands. He cited an example from Kamuli Road, where no one is using the wetland for irrigation but also dry land which is misused. He encouraged the community to learn from successful farming models like Limoto farming in Pallisa.

He also addressed concerns regarding cattle farming, explaining that the government supports increasing the cattle population in Uganda, but also emphasized the need for adequate land to raise cattle. To address this, he recommended the four-acre farming model.

On the subject of sugar production, Museveni acknowledged that sugarcane farmers often don’t benefit as much as the sugar processors, who profit from by-products like biogas and molasses. He promised to investigate this issue and pledged to fund sugar factories to ensure that farmers can benefit more from their own produce.

In response to Kadaga’s request for road improvements in regions like Budondo, Kaliro, Iganga, and Luuka, Museveni assured that work would begin soon, as some funds had been redirected for other national projects.

Earlier that day, President Museveni toured the newly commissioned Abyssinia Steel Factory in Jinja City as he continues with day three of the PDM performance assessment in the Busoga Sub-Region.

As he wrapped up the third day of the PDM assessment tour in the Busoga sub-region, the youths in Kamuli and Busoga led by the district Youth Chairperson Nororo Asuman Waiswa endorsed the President as sole candidate for presidency. They requested for support for the skilling center in Kamuli that requires help to accomplish it.
