Atek Kagirita, the Manager of Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health says the personnel will provide surveillance and emergencies to help the Ministry of Health to manage and coordinate the Ebola outbreak.

The ministry on Thursday, last week declared an Ebola outbreak after a 32-year-old male nurse from Mbale working at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala succumbed to Sudan Ebola virus a day earlier.

As of Monday, Mbale city had confirmed five positive cases and 27 contact cases under isolation.

Atek confirmed that all the positive cases and the suspects are under isolation care adding that all the contacts are family members and health workers who touched on the patient.

According to him, those under isolation have been vaccinated and they are all quarantined.

The Mbale Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Asumin Nasiki has called for calm and urged residents not to panic but rather maintain vigilance and obey the ministry guidelines confirming that all businesses and schools in the city will operate as normal.
