Police in Bukedea Central Police Station in Bukedea District have this morning 5th, Feb 2025 Wednesday arrested a UPDF officer for allegedly murdering his brother.
Emmy Lorika, the Bukedea District Police Commander identified the suspect as Augustine Ocom.
The deceased was identified as Joseph Opolot a resident of Kobaale village, Kobaale parish, Kangole Sub County in bukedea district.
“We received information from the local council one chairperson about the incident, the scene of crime officers together with the police sniffer dog visited the scene and managed to arrest one suspect who’s in our cells”, said DPC Lorika.
Lorika also added that the arrested UPDF officer is helping the police to carry out investigations.
“The police sniffer dog led us to his home and we arrested him in order to help us in investigations”, added Lorika.
Mr. Constantine Okasio, Kobaale local council one chairperson said the accused UPDF officer together with his other colleague who’s on the run used a knife to slaughter his brother.
“It’s shocking news in my village today to hear such a thing happening for the first time, police searched the house of the deceased and found a used knife”, said Okasio.
Ms. Catherine Imalingat, the wife of the deceased narrated how her husband was killed by his own brother.
“It was at night and we were all inside, my husband was sleeping but two people kicked our door and they entered inside, before me waking my husband, they placed a knife on my throat stopping me from making an alarm and my husband was trying to plead to his brother that Ocom you have decided to kill me, one tied me and asked for money, motorcycle logbook and how I was hanged on tree I was not aware”, said Imalingat.
Michael Ocan, Kangole LCIII chairperson condemned the act saying this has left the community suspicious.
“I am witnessing this kind of incident in my sub county for the first time and I want to condemn it, let’s learn how to resolve family disputes rather than killings”, said Ocan.
However, the body of the deceased was conveyed at Bukedea Health Center IV mortuary pending a post mortem.
