The National Unity Platform (NUP) Party has picked Lawyer Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi as its Flagbearer in the Kawempe North bye election.
Luyimbazi currently among the Lawyers representing Rtd Col. Kizza Besigye was according to insiders NUP’s President, Robert Kyagulanyi favorite.
It is reported that a week after the death of Hon. Ssegirinya, NUP convened NEC meeting where Kyagulanyi expressed his backing for Luyimbazi whom other Party leaders consider a new comer.
On the contrary, most Party leaders were in support of Umar Magala who had spent two years in prison over his party activities.
The bye-election is scheduled for 13th March, 2025 with nominations taking place on 26th and 27th of February.
Luyimbazi will now face off with NRM’s Faridah Nambi.
