Two teachers from Standard College Rwashamaire have been remanded in Ntungamo for assaulting a student, Brian Akampa (16), after a viral video showed the incident.

The two who appeared before Magistrate Nassuna Sharon on Tuesday 11th February, 2025 allegedly caned the student for sneaking out of the school compound to eat ‘Kikomando.”

Magistrate Nassuna charged Aneb Mwesigye (31) and Naboth Twesigye (30) with assault, but they pleaded not guilty. They will remain in custody until their next court appearance on March 4, 2025.

The incident has left citizens reacting differently with others saying corporal punishment in schools enhances discipline. However, others are taking the legal argument that corporal punishment was abolished in schools and is therefore illegal.
