Tororo Municipality Boda Boda Riders Union in Bukedi Subregion is set to officially launch its operations, following a meeting held in Tororo Municipality early this week.
According to Thomas Emurukut, Chairperson of the Boda Boda Riders Tororo District as well as Union, the organization aims to unite boda boda riders and provide them with benefits such as affordable motorcycles and uniforms.
“We urge all boda boda leaders to unite so that we can benefit from this initiative,” Emurukut said. “We are planning to collect data on all boda boda riders and provide them with motorcycles at a subsidized price of 5.6 million Ugandan shillings, payable in installments.”
Emurukut also revealed that the government plans to purchase uniforms for all boda boda riders at their respective stages. Riders will be required to pay a daily fee of 1,000 Ugandan shillings using a mobile application.
Catherine Apero, Municipal Senior Finance Officer, emphasized the importance of compliance among boda boda riders, stating that it is crucial for better service delivery as taxpayers.
The Boda Boda Riders Union is supported by the Ministry of Local Government, Finance, Gender, Labour, Works, and Health.
The official launch of the union is expected to take place soon, marking a significant milestone for the organization and its members.
