MBALE CITY
Mbale City has finally transferred the two head teachers of Nabuyonga Primary School and Mbale Police Barracks Wanyera Primary School after resolving a dispute with the Foundation Bodies.
The transfers were initially blocked due to a disagreement over the city’s failure to consult with the foundation bodies, including St. Andrew’s Cathedral Church of Uganda and the police.
The issue was resolved after a meeting between Mbale City, Mbale Diocese, and Mbale Police on Thursday, 20th February, 2025 where it was agreed to allow the transfers to take place.
Martin Busiku, the Mbale Principal Town Clerk, confirmed to our reporter on Thursday that Milly Namataka, the former head teacher of Bujoloto, has been transferred to Police Barracks Wanyera Primary School, while Betty Nabugobero, the acting head teacher, has been transferred to Nakaloke Primary School. Grace Irene Kabuni has remained as the head teacher of Nabuyonga Primary School.
According to John Nandaa, the Bishop of Mbale Diocese, the Education Act requires local governments to consult and agree with foundation bodies before transferring head teachers of church-founded schools.
The city’s failure to do so led to the initial dispute. Nandaa expressed his happiness that the matter was resolved peacefully, allowing Kabuni to continue serving as head teacher at Nabuyonga Primary School.
