The Entebbe Municipality Town Clerk, Emmanuel Gacharo Mugisha has assured locals of safety of Entebbe Mayor’s gardens following rumors that a local investor had bought it.
He gave the assurance on February 19, 2025 while addressing locals in Entebbe Division ‘A’ during Baraza day (community meeting).
Mugisha informed the gathering that a few months ago, a private developer approached council and wanted to beautify Entebbe Mayor’s gardens for recreation activities but unfortunately he failed to satisfy the conditions set by council and eventually vanished in thin air.
” It’s totally untrue that Entebbe Mayor’s gardens was leased to a private developer and the truth of the matter is that he was interested in beautifying the gardens but he failed to fulfill the conditions that was set by the council, ‘ Town Clerk Mugisha clearly explained.
He said Politicians seeking elective posts should desist from politicizing the issue of Mayor’s gardens since he had given them the right information.
On the issue of constructing Entebbe central market, Town Clerk said it would have been constructed but government can’t inject money where it has no land title but assured locals his office is working tirelessly to secure the land title for the market.
“I assure you government can’t invest money in the market where it has no land title. It can only be possible if government has the land title,” he said.
On the issue of Presidential Skilling center, Mr. Mugisha asked Entebbe Deputy Resident Commissioner to inform the President that locals in Entebbe require a Presidential Skilling center to equip them with the necessary vocational skills that can enable them earn a living.
Regarding the issue of Entebbe police playground, the Town Clerk revealed that the land housing the playground belongs to Buganda kingdom and not government or police arguing that police should allow locals to use the playground. He pledged to engage police on this issue so that the playground is open to all people.
The Entebbe municipal council commercial officer, Stephen Mulindwa, informed Entebbe Resident District Commissioner that 90% of the beneficiaries of emyoga funds have defaulted yet it’s a revolving fund which must be returned to council to be used by other people. He, however threatened to take police action against the defaulters.
The Entebbe municipal Health officer, Dr. John Kalyesubula revealed that so far they have received 140 patients of monkeypox at Entebbe Isolation health facility and that majority of them are slowly recovering. He urged locals to avoid being close to people suspected to have mpox and to regularly use sanitizers.
Dr. Kalyesubula also decried inadequate housing facilities for health workers, inadequate drugs in government health centers on top of inadequate land for expansion citing Katabi Health Center 111.
Dr. Kalyesubula expressed concern on the poor management of Nkumba dumpsite which he says poses health risks to the neighboring communities. He said in order to address this issue, council is in talks with an investor who will soon take over management of the dumpsite.
The Entebbe municipal Education Officer, Joyce Nalubega, expressed dismay on the continued grabbing of school land by land grabbers citing part of Lake Victoria school land that had been grabbed by an unknown person.
She added that council has intensified it’s efforts to renovate government schools in addition to equipping them with enough furniture. She cited St.Theresa primary school, Lake Victoria school , Kigungu primary school , and Nsamizi Army school as some of the beneficiaries.
The Entebbe municipal council assistant Engineer Appolo Maito , told locals his department has been able to fix a number of roads in addition to constructing modern drainage systems.
The Entebbe Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Hakim Kirigwa, cautioned locals against misinforming the public that Entebbe Mayor’s gardens was sold to a local investor in addition to spreading false information that so far 40 people have died of Mpox in Entebbe alone.
