EXCLUSIVE: Standalone Art Showcase in Los Angeles to Spotlight East Africa’s Best Talents, says Ambassador Walusimbi

LA Art Show stands as the largest and longest running art fair in Los Angeles, USA, marking an extraordinary milestone with its 30th anniversary, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

 

“I was exceedingly happy proud to see three Ugandan art pieces by Lawrence Ssewanyana, Jeremiah Nsubuga, Joshua Mubiru, showcased here in Los Angeles, the economic and cultural heartbeat of the world,” Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, Abbey Walusimbi said.

 

Ambassador went on to recognize local leadership, by commending Mayors of Los Angeles & Compton, and Governor of California for their visionary work in uniting communities and bridging divides across ethnic groups.

 

He stressed that Uganda cherishes its deep historical ties with the global African diaspora, reaffirming His Excellency President Museveni’s call for enhanced diaspora collaboration. “Under his leadership, Uganda is committed to strengthening relationships with the diaspora. We view all people of African descent as family; united by heritage and shared aspirations. We invite our sisters and brothers to join us in a ‘brain gain’ initiative; sharing skills, ideas, and innovation to build a stronger Uganda and Africa.”

 

Walusimbi stated that through partnerships, we can bolster collaboration and multi-sector efforts aimed at transforming nations, revealing that an innovative standalone art showcase spotlighting East Africa’s best talents will next year be held in Los Angeles. “We’re here to learn from Los Angeles’ best practices in wealth creation, infrastructure, and entrepreneurship. Uganda & East Africa at large seeks partnerships with black-owned businesses in agriculture, logistics, art, sports, and mineral processing to drive mutual growth.”

 

He also thanked NFL legend, Greg Bell & Athletes for Life, for sponsoring the LA Art Show, plus collaborating with Uganda on sports development; a testament to the power of cross-cultural partnerships. “Come home to Uganda. Uganda is your home. We warmly invite the diaspora to return, invest, and reconnect with your roots. Together, we can reshape perceptions and build a thriving Africa; for us, by us”

 

The Ambassador also announced formation of the Diaspora Advisory Council. “To deepen diaspora engagement, the Office of the President is establishing an Advisory Council on African Diaspora Affairs. This council will ensure your voices shape Uganda’s future & bolster friendships, because progress thrives when we unite. Thank you for your solidarity. Let’s continue bridging continents and cultures. On behalf of His Excellency, I extend an open invitation: Visit Uganda, explore opportunities, and let’s build greatness together.”

 

In light of recent challenges, Director & Producer, Kassandra Vayogis, reaffirmed the project’s commitment to the arts community. “As the longest running art fair, our mission is unequivocal: to champion the artists and galleries that constitute our cultural landscape. “This decision stemmed from a resolute commitment to aid in the healing and rebuilding efforts while offering much needed community support and reprieve.”

 

He also emphasised the power of art in shaping society. “We believe that art has the power in shaping society. to heal, unite, and inspire, especially during difficult times. This year’s show will not only celebrate our 30-year journey, but also showcase the resilience and creativity that defines LA.”

 

Charles Xavier, Wealth Garden Entertainment CEO, said the event offered an opportunity for vibrant and interactive sessions with global creatives & leaders, including paving way for innovative cultural exhibitions.

 

Xavier also expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi & His Excellency President Museveni for his visionary leadership in inviting the diaspora, especially those of African origin to reconnect with their homeland and empowering them to contribute toward Uganda’s development.

 

The well-attended event hosted by actress and producer Jenna Dewan, showed that art has the power to heal, unite, and inspire, especially during difficult times. This year’s show not only celebrated the 30-year journey, but also showcased the resilience and creativity of creatives.
