Two Primary school teachers at Nyakasa Primary School in Ntungamo District have been arrested and charged at court for allegedly using Nursery kids to beef up enrollment numbers at the school.

The duo identified as Tunanukye Marsaile and Nkumiriza Molly appeared before the Ntungamo Chief Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 12th March, 2025 and charged with Conspiracy to Defeat Justice. They have been remanded until March 26, 2025.

According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit that carried out the arrests, the duo being employed as teachers at Nyakasa Primary School interfered with a legal process related to a police investigation into the total enrollment of pupils at the school.

The teachers reportedly transferred nursery pupils to Primary One in an attempt to inflate the number of learners and secure a larger capitation grant from the government.

They join the Ntungamo District Education Officer, Municipal Education Officer, and other head teachers who were previously charged before the Anti-Corruption Court over issues related to capitation grants in the district.
