Dialysis Services have finally been extended to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.

This is revealed in a letter addressed to the Director Hoima Regional Hospital dated 13th March, 2025 by the Director Kiruddu National Referral Hospital, Dr. Kabugo Charles.

Kiruddu hospital letter

In the letter, Dr. Kabugo says a team from Kiruddu Hospital led by Nephrologist, Dr. Kiggundu Daniel will be at Hoima Hospital on 20th March, 2025 to undertake assessment and organize setting up the dialysis services at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.

This follows the setting up of the same services at Mbale, Lira and Mbarara regional Hospitals in 2024.

The Ministry of Health and Parliament of Uganda had in 2024 directed Kiruddu National Referral Hospital to set satellite dialysis sites in Lira, Mbale, Mbarara and Hoima regional Hospitals.

However, the Hoima Regional Hospital Dialysis Site was not set up last year due to financial constraints.

Dialysis is a lifesaving treatment for people whose kidneys are not functioning properly.
