The Ministry of Health has upgraded two health centers in Namisindwa District, a move aimed at improving healthcare services in the area.
The upgraded health centers are Mukota Health Center 2 in Mukoto sub-county and Kitongo Health Center 2 in Bupoto sub-county.
While speaking to the media on Tuesday, 18th March, 2025, Leonard Kitafuja, the Chief Administrative Officer of Namisindwa District, said the health centers will automatically be promoted to Health Center 3’s, enabling them to provide more comprehensive services.
Jackson Wakwaika, the District LCV Chairperson, noted that the health centers had been operating privately, with patients paying for services at a fair fee.
He expressed hopes that the upgrade will bring government support, including medical staff, security, and infrastructure development among others, urging locals to embrace the development.
Residents of Mukoto sub-county, Peter Wamutu and Patrick Wasike, welcomed the upgrade, citing challenges in accessing healthcare services due to the remote location of their area.
They had been relying on distant health centers in neighboring Manafwa District, which sometimes resulted in maternal deaths during transportation.
