A severe storm, accompanied by heavy rains, left a trail of destruction at Sebino Primary School in Bukiabi sub-county, Namisindwa district, on Tuesday evening, 18th March, 2025.
The disaster resulted in the destruction of four classrooms, leaving the school temporarily closed.
According to Bernard Mafabi, the head teacher of Sebino Primary School, the affected classrooms were for primary two, five, three, and one. Fortunately, no pupils or teachers were injured, as they had been sent home before the storm intensified.
The school’s staff room building was also destroyed, prompting calls for urgent government support.
The LCIII chairperson of Bukiabi sub-county, Nicholas Soita, reported that over 30 houses and crops, including bananas, cassava, and coffee, were damaged in the area.
Area councilor, Alex Molokoi, who also serves as the secretary for education, instructed sub-county leaders to document the damage and submit a report to the district disaster committee for onward submission to the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness in Kampala.
The area Member of Parliament, John Musila, urged district leaders to submit the disaster report to his office for onward forwarding to the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness for a response.
This morning, the pupils were sent back home as the school was temporarily closed for further action.
