The Ministry of Health is set to commence construction of Regional Cancers in Mbale, Arua and Mbarara Cities.

This was revealed by Dr. Jackson Orem, Executive Director of the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI), today, Thursday, 20th March, 2025.

Dr. Orem who was presenting the UCI Performance Report and highlighting groundbreaking achievements in cancer care and control during a press briefing says construction of modern cancer centers in Arua, Mbarara, and Mbale is set to begin in FY 2025/26, marking a significant step forward in improving cancer treatment across Uganda.

This he says is in line with UCI’s commitment to expanding access to cancer care by establishing regional centers, ensuring that patients no longer have to travel long distances for treatment.

Orem highlights that the UCI-Gulu Regional Cancer Center is fully operational, offering crucial services like diagnostics, chemotherapy, and surgery, significantly improving cancer care in northern Uganda.

Orem states that the upcoming regional cancer centers in Arua, Mbarara, and Mbale will enhance access to screening, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, allowing for earlier and more effective interventions.
