Nkoma SS on Saturday, 22nd March, 2025 made history by clinching the top spot in both the boys’ and girls’ categories of the Mbale City Secondary Schools competition.

The boys’ team defeated Mbale Progressive SS, while the girls’ team beat Bugisu High School, showcasing their exceptional skills and teamwork.

Notably, Nkoma SS has successfully defended both trophies, having won them last year as well. This remarkable achievement underscores the school’s commitment to excellence in sports.

The chairperson of Mbale City Secondary Schools Sports Association, Hajji Kawanguzi Abubakr, appreciated the headteachers for allowing their schools to participate in the competitions and reported that 20 and 11 schools’ teams participated in the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively.

He also assured the head teachers that, as a committee for sports, they are eliminating the poor system of using machineries in these games. “I have been in Mbale for four years, but I found every school using machineries, even my school, but we thank God that we are now moving on the right track, and as a committee, we are committed to promoting sports development and improving talents.” Kawanguzi emphasized.

The awards ceremony was officiated by the chief guest, the Eastern Regional League Football Association (ERFA) chairperson, Mr. Issa Musiwa, Eastern Fufa Delegate Mr. Mafuko Latif and other dignitaries.

In the boys’ football category, Nkoma SS, Mbale Progressive, and Mbale High qualified for the Regional Bugisu zone. For the girls’ category, Nkoma SS, Bugisu High, and Joy SS will represent Mbale City in the Bugisu Region.
