Finance Minister, Matia Kasaija has today, Tuesday, March 25, 2025 signed a grant agreement worth approx. Shs101.3 billion with the Chinese Ambassador Zhang Lizhong.
The Grant is for economic and technical cooperation between Government of the People’s Republic of China and Government of the Republic of Uganda.
According to a Ministry of Finance statement, this financial and technical support will go towards investments to achieve Uganda’s National Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals.
“On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Uganda, I want to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the long-lasting technical and financial support in various sectors ranging from transport, energy and health among others,” said the Finance Minister.
Kasaija requested for continued support in the priority areas of agro-industrialization, solar power irrigation, mineral beneficiation & technology transfer.
Ambassador Zhang on his part, said this economic & technical agreement was brewed during FOCAC 2024 where China pledged to elevate China-Uganda relation to comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership.
He said the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and the Chinese Embassy have already identified projects to jointly implement the 10 partnership actions in the next 3 years.
He said under Agriculture & food security, the first batch of fish maws were exported to China, adding that the bamboo plantation & utilization industry has reached implementation stage.
Amb. Zhang said this year, China will continue supporting Uganda’s malaria elimination project.
