As part of the preparations, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, who doubles as the Chairperson NRM Diaspora League, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, held an engagement with the Canada NRM Chapter Head, Fred Kinene, on Thursday, 27th March, 2025 to discuss matters as regards holding a successful NRM Symposium for this year.

The 4th Canada NRM Chapter Symposium in Toronto (Canada) will run from September 26-28, 2025 themed “Reigniting a Nation for Greatness”; that’s bringing all Ugandans overseas together to promote trade, investment, tourism and enhancing remittances to boost economic development.

During the meeting, Ambassador Walusimbi expressed gratitude to Ugandans in the diaspora, for their commitment to unity and development. He also urged Ugandans to be patriotic and love their motherland, advising them to shun sectarianism.

On the same occasion, the Ambassador praised His Excellency President Museveni for having steadily kept Uganda on the right economic and political trajectory, calling upon Ugandans abroad to support the President, & all NRM candidates during the 2026 general elections. “We should rise and mobilize support for the ruling party, especially our National Chairman. Let’s join hands and work toward socio-economic transformation,” he added.

On his part, Fred Kinene, the Canada NRM Chapter Head, said he visited the Ambassador to seek guidance and blessings before embarking on mobilizing Ugandans who live in Canada, ahead of the forthcoming symposium and general elections.

He said the initiative intends to expose Ugandans to skills, experience, expertise, ideas and solutions to take action on pressing challenges as far as job market is concerned. “The symposium will consolidate NRM government milestones, goals, and change the perception of NRM toward the diaspora community ahead of 2026 general elections.”

Kinene thanked Ambassador Walusimbi for building a vibrant NRM Diaspora League, and trusting him to lead the Diaspora Infrastructure Development team on the NRM Diaspora Independent Task Force Committee. He pledged to use the new role to rally the diaspora community to support infrastructure development & President Museveni.

“As we prepare for the 2026 Presidential campaign and support all NRM flag bearers, I call upon all members of the Diaspora to unite and support this noble initiative. The NRM Diaspora is a powerful force, and together, we can make a significant impact.”

It’s true that Ambassador Walusimbi has united and maintained cordial relationship with NRM Diaspora League founders, including Ambassador Moses Kizige (former Director External Relations at NRM Secretariat), Ambassador James Kinobe, Ambassador Danny Sozi, Ambassador Nimisha Madhvani, Ambassador Kintu Nyago, & Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, among others.

Ultimately, the collective efforts have promoted interests of Ugandans living abroad, galvanised party support, fostered growth, and amplified Uganda’s image on the global stage.
