People and cultural leaders in Butaleja district are in jubilation after government promised to gazette their cultural Institution which they have for so long demanded.
This was revealed by the State Minister for Local Government, Victoria Lusoke while presiding over Butaleja Women’s Day celebrations on Friday, 29th March, 2025.
The celebration was held at Butaleja district administration under the theme “For all Women and Girls’ Rights, Equality and Empowerment”.
Sending the Banyole in high jubilation and excitement, Hon. Lusoke said President Museveni and the government resolved to legalize the obwa Sehulu bwa Bunyole through gazetting the cultural institution and its leadership.
‘Sehulu’ is the top cultural leader of the Banyole and the cultural seat is located at Mulagi village in Busaba Sub County. The seat is currently being occupied by HRH Hayinja Martin. However another section of the Banyole opposes Hayinja and instead elected Kyomi Eri as a parallel Sehulu hence creating divisionism and controversies.

Celina Nebanda.
Hon. Nebanda also cautioned people in Butaleja district to be hardworking through educating their children, growing enough food for both consumption and market and avoid being misled by politicians especially political aspirants.
The deputy RDC for Butaleja district, Luttamaguzi Betty however cautioned all beneficiaries of Emyooga, PDM to use the government’s money to change on their economic and household status other than wasting money in drinking and marrying women.
The function was attended by other area MPs, women groups and associations, district and sub county leaders, cultural and religious leaders as well as schools.
