Two senior police officers attached to the environmental protection unit at Kajjansi police station were on Friday April 4, 2025, paraded in court before Kajjansi Grade one Magistrate Pascal Olupot.
The accused are charged with three counts including assault, causing grievous harm and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor.
The accused persons include Assistant Inspector of Police Kenneth Hadali and police constable Alex Katungi both attached to Kajjansi police station.
Prosecution led by State Attorney, Stella Akoth told court that on January 16, 2025, at Kitende village, Kajjansi Town Council in Wakiso district, Alex Katungi 45, armed with a pistol unlawfully assaulted Maria Nabukalu thereby causing severe body injuries on her body.
It’s also alleged that on the same day, Alex Katungi and his boss Kenneth Hadali plus others still at large conspired to commit a misdemeanor contrary to section 364 of the penal code Act cap 128.
Prosecution also states that on January 16, 2025, Kenneth Hadali , his junior Alex Katungi and others at large descended on Maria Nabukalu and beat her to unconsciousness leaving her with severe body injuries.
Prosecution further told court that in 2023 at Kitovu cell, Kajjansi Town Council in Wakiso district, Alex Katungi armed with a pistol and baton seriously caned Gilbert Napoko hence causing grievous harm on his body.
However, the duo denied any wrong doing and the Magistrate remanded them to Kigo prison till April 9, 2025 when they return to court to hear their bail application.
