The Bukedea District Education Officer, Mr. Stephen Okurut has today Monday, 7th April, 2025 found all 14 teachers of Kamon primary school located in Bkedea Sub County including the head teacher absent from school.
Okurut who had visited the school to monitor the situation of the pit latrine unfortunately found teachers were not at school at 8am. At 8am, primary seven pupils were found sleeping in class without a teacher.
Kamon primary school has a total enrollment of 1003 pupils but only 603 were present.
“I have called for this emergency meeting of fourteen teachers including the head teacher to explain why teachers are not in class”, said Mr. Stephen Okurut DEO Bukedea.
Mr. Okurut also discovered that the teacher login smartphone was off and no single teacher login showing that teachers were at school but not in class.
“Revising a past paper in the morning is not allowed in schools, teachers must have lesson plans which are missing at school, so call for me pupils I want to send them off and let teachers also go home and report tomorrow when they are set to teach”, added Okurut.
Okurut also added that the government cannot waste money paying teachers who are not willing to work.
However, Mr. Richard Ongole, Bukedea Sub County District councilor condemned the teacher’s reluctant act and appealed to the office of the district education officer to penalize teachers in the entire school.
“We had come to this school to monitor the situation of the pit latrine unfortunately, we found teachers when they are out of school by 8am, now we have resolved that each teacher writes an apology addressed to DEO and must indicate the period each teacher has spent in this school”, said Ongole.
Ms. Rose Angela Among, school head teacher committed to their mistakes pledging not to repeat.
“I want to bring this to your notice DEO, we have submitted our apologies attached with our recommendations, I beg we shall not repeat it again”, said H/M Among.
It’s on record that the school has spent over seven years without producing first grade.
