Police in Mbarara have arrested Muhereza Abu, the driver of a Toyota Hiace (Reg No. UBR 220H), after he was intercepted driving under the influence of alcohol while carrying passengers along the Mbarara–Fort Portal road on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
According to SP Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, thi reckless conduct endangered the lives of passengers & other road users.
“We urge the public to stay vigilant & report any suspected cases of drunk or reckless driving to our toll-free number 0800199099. Together, we can prevent road crashes & save lives,” he says.
The suspect will be charged in court for driving under the influence of alcohol, contrary to Section 101 of the Traffic and Road Safety Act (CAP 347).
