H.E President Yoweri Museveni has responded to a request for 41 heifer Friesian cows by Katakwi district councilors.

The request was made late last year while President Museveni was conducting PDM assessments and monitoring in Teso, particularly while visiting VP Alupo’s farm on November 19, 2024.

Vice President Rtd Maj. Jessica Rose Alupo delivered the donation to 41 Katakwi district councilors yesterday April 15, 2025 at Ajesai Cattle Holding Ground in Ajesai Parish, Getom Sub County, Katakwi district where each received an in-calf heifer fresher cow.

The heifer cows will help all the district councilors of Katakwi and is one form of wealth building but also serves the goal of earning daily income through daily sale of milk as they offer high yielding milk and also promote nutrition at household levels.

While handing over the heifers on behalf of the President, VP Alupo asked the Councilors to be examples of growth in their jurisdictions by having a positive mindset and a favorable attitude towards development. She also urged citizens to prioritize household investments in order to combat poverty.

Geoffrey Omolo, LCV Katakwi district, commended the government’s initiative to elevate leaders who are regularly sidelined in many projects. Omolo claims that this assistance will help councilors with low incomes improve their financial situation.

Gabriel Omuge, a councilor for Okulonyo Sub County in Usuk County, one of the beneficiaries, believes that once the government recognizes local leaders by strengthening the money economy, the rest of the population would follow suit and invest in their households.

However, he requested that the veterinary staff teach them how to treat these animals.

Dr. Ariko Onyait, DVO of Katakwi, said his department will collaborate closely with sub-county Veterinary Officers to aid in the treatment procedure.

Ariko said the veterinary department will create a WhatsApp group where councilors can post for disease surveillance and to expedite the process of providing medical assistance.
