Five Members of Parliament have been accused by the Leader of Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi of using his name to fraudulently obtain an invitation to a 2 two weeks Workshop in Mombasa, Kenya.
This was revealed by the Lop on his X-handle today, Wednesday, 30th April, 2025, calling it a fraud.
He identifies the five MPs as Opposition MPS; Joyce Bagala, Kakembo Mbwatekamwa, Juliet Kakande, Lumu Richard and NRM’s Najjuma Sarah.
“These 5 Honourable colleagues (Joyce Bagala, Kakembo Mbwatekamwa, Juliet Kakande, Lumu Richard & Najjuma Sarah) obtained an invitation in my name from some organization in Kenya, for them to attend some random workshop in Mombasa next month for 2 weeks,” he writes.
Ssenyonyi says one MP, Lumu even lobbied for his name to be added using a pen after the letter was received by them. They then forwarded it to the Speaker for clearance for them to be facilitated for the 2 weeks trip.
According to the invitation letter seen by this reporter, the workshop on, ‘Inclusive Leadership and Governance for Social Equity and Development,’ is take place from 18th to 31st May, 2025 at Sai Rock Hotel, Mombasa, Kenya.
The invitation signed by Denis Musyoka, the Director Legislative Center, spells out that the organization would provide expert facilitation but participants are to cater for their travel and accommodation.
Ssenyonyi says he is bitter because the five didn’t inform/consult him that they would use his name to obtain this invitation, arguing that they impersonated him.
“Even more problematic, the list includes an NRM MP (Najjuma Sarah-Nakaseke Woman MP) on the “Opposition delegation” which apparently is to be led by myself as LOP,” adds Ssenyonyi.
He says that this while, he had no knowledge about this supposed trip or the entire scheme of the Honorable members, until he landed on the invitation letter.
