BUSIA: 5 Senior District Officials, 2 Businessmen Remanded Over Shs200M Road Fund

Five senior district officials at Busia Local District Government together with two businessmen have been remanded to prison over embezzlement.

 

According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit that carried out the arrests after a series of Barazas at the district, the seven were remanded on charges related to the misappropriation of the UGX1 billion road maintenance grant.

 

The seven were arraigned before the Busia Chief Magistrates Court on Friday, 16th May, 2025 and remanded until 30th May 2025.

 

They are; Baganzi Ronald Ross, former Town Clerk Busia MC, now current Town Clerk Kumi, Kiganda James Farouk, Municipal Engineer, Chimulwa Wycliffe, Principal Accountant, Sekamanya Martin, Assistant Engineering Officer and Kundu Javenarly, Foreman Works.

 

The businessmen are Kyaligonza Christopher, Manager Shell Busia and Mukisa Were, Assistant Manager Shell Busia.

 

The accused, using the engineering department, and in conspiracy with staff of Shell Busia, channeled funds through Shell Busia station disguised as fuel supplied to the municipality. So far, investigations have established that over Shs200M of the Shs1 billion grant was misappropriated.

 

In addition, Asset David, the Chairperson, North “C” PDM SACCO, has been charged with demanding money from several PDM beneficiaries for them to access their funds.
