The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission of Kenya has confirmed the arrest of the Trans Nzoia Governor, George Natembeya.
The confirmation came in today, Monday, 19th May, 2025 in a public press statement.
The EACC confirms that its officers carried out searches at the residences and offices of the Governor after obtaining Search Warrants in relation to alleged irregular procurement and fictitious payments of Kshs1.4 Billion by the Governor in the FY 2024/25.
“The search operation is part of a wider investigation into allegations of procurement irregularities, abuse of office, bribery, and fraudulent acquisition of public funds,” reads the statement in part.
The investigation focuses on three projects awarded by the County government which are; Rehabilitation and modernization of Kenyatta Stadium, construction of Trans Nzoia County headquarters offices and construction of Tom Mboya Hospital.
The Governor is being accused of influencing the award of the contracts and receiving kickbacks from third parties.
He is being investigated alongside, Emmanuel Masungo, Chief Finance Officer, Dorothy Nyukuri Chief Officer, Water, Eliyah Liambula, Director Procurement and Desmond Shivachi, Contractor and allegedly a proxy to the Governor.
