MUKONO: Fuso Truck Rams Into 3 Taxis, Boda Boda Motorcycles Killing Three on Spot

Mukono Police Division is investigating a fatal road crash that occurred on May 20, 2025, at around 9:00 PM along the Kampala-Jinja Highway in Mukono Municipality, specifically at Wantoni.

 

The incident involved multiple vehicles, including a Fuso truck (registration number UBB 422U), several Toyota Hiace taxis (UBP 359W, UAW 042E, UAQ 398L), and 5 motorcycles (UFL 976T, UFN 916P, UEU 698W, UDK 495B, UDZ 777A).

 

Tragically, the crash claimed the lives of three people: two unidentified adult males and one male juvenile. Nine others sustained injuries and were identified as Ssaku Paul, Zafafu Bakiti, Sazza Bashir, Lubega Gerald, Kakumirizi Jackson, Nasaza Aisha, Nafuna Irene, Lubega Denis, and Bisirikira Juliet, among others.

 

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, preliminary investigations indicate that the crash was caused by brake failure. The Fuso truck driver reportedly lost control, veered into the opposite lane, and rammed into the taxis and motorcycles at a taxi stage including food vendors. The driver fled the scene and remains at large.

 

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kawolo Hospital for postmortem examinations, while the injured were transported to various health facilities for treatment. Police investigations are ongoing.

The fatal accident involved four vehicles — UBB 422U (Mitsubishi Fuso), UBP 359W (Toyota Hiace), UAW 042E (Toyota Hiace), and UAQ 398L (Toyota Hiace) — along with five motorcycles: UFL 976T (Bajaj), UFN 916P (TVS), UEU 698W (Bajaj), UDK 495B (Bajaj) & UDZ 777A (Bajaj).

 

According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the Mitsubishi Fuso truck (UBB 422U) reportedly lost control at Wantoni Junction, veering into the opposite lane. The truck crashed into several vehicles, motorcycles & roadside food stalls, resulting in the instant  deaths of 03 individuals & injuries to 10 others, including pedestrians, motorcycle riders, drivers, and vehicle passengers.

 

The injured were rushed to various medical facilities, including Mukono General Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were transported to Kawolo Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

 

All vehicles & motorcycles involved in the crash have been towed to Mukono Police parking yard and are currently awaiting inspection as investigations start.
